Acoustic Landscapes

VR Film by Fabienne Verdier and Julie Charrier

“THERE IS NO ART WHICH MUST, MORE THAN THE THEATRE, BRING TOGETHER ILLUSION AND REALITY” JEAN VILAR

Bringing together illusion and reality. That is what is on offer with virtual reality whose specificities, from both a technical and narrative standpoint, raise many questions and create new challenges.
Histoires d’espaces, season 2, offers 4 shorts in stereoscopic VR produced with shows in mind that were presented at the Avignon and Aix en Provence Festivals in 2017.  These four works offer the opportunity of bringing together directors, playwrights, choreographs, musicians or visual artists to question and explore virtual reality in comparison to live productions.

“In the painted line, I have always heard something like an acoustic line. In the acoustic line, I have always perceived something like a pictorial construction. So I went to Juilliard School with this question in mind: painting and music, in the instant where they come into being, could they be played at the same time?”

Fabienne Verdier

In July 2017, within the framework of the Académie du Festival d’Aix en Provence, Fabienne Verdier, wanted to continue this new form of artistic research which is both collaborative and transdisciplinary, by organising a laboratory-workshop where, for 2 weeks she surrounded herself with several quartets and several cameras in order to promote dialogue between plastic art, music and public performance.

This laboratory is reproduced by means of a VR experience.
